Lufthansa

How to upgradeEligibility

Submit an upgrade request form for your Lufthansa flight. You can make an upgrade request after buying a ticket beginning 331 days before departure and up to 10 hours before your flight. If a seat is available, you can upgrade immediately or confirm within eight weeks of departure. But any miles you earn will be based on your original ticket, not the upgrade.

Upgrades might be available for Lufthansa codeshare flights with a United flight number. Make a request at 1-800-UNITED-1 within the U.S. and Canada.

For outside the U.S. and Canada, call your local United Customer Contact Center.

Upgrade requests are only valid on Lufthansa-operated flights.

For flights that make stops, the requested upgrades must be available on all segments of the flight. You can upgrade more than one trip segment, but you must request them one at a time.

Lufthansa cabins eligible for upgrade requests are B, C, D, E, G, H, J, M, Q, U, and Y. The number of points needed to upgrade depends on your original ticket, the upgrade you request, and where you are flying. However, U.S. government tickets are not eligible for electronic PlusPoints upgrades.

You can request upgrades for up to four people traveling on the same reservation as you. They do not need to be with you or have the same last name, but all travelers must have the same upgrade. If the reservation has more than four travelers, you will need to call the operating carrier.
