Text Messaging

United offers SMS text messaging services that allow you to choose to receive several types of text messages on your mobile device, including promotional, flight information and flight reminders. Please see the text messaging terms and conditions below for full details, including possible fees associated with text messaging.

Text messaging services are not available in all countries.

Text messaging terms and conditions

By opting in for text messaging services, you, the user, agree to the Terms and Conditions for United.com as well as our Privacy Policy. You also agree to the following as it pertains to specific usage of the text messaging service.

Usage

You acknowledge that text messages are distributed via third-party mobile network providers and therefore United cannot control certain factors relating to message delivery. You acknowledge that, depending on your mobile provider service, it may not be possible to transmit the text message to you successfully. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

United does not claim or guarantee availability or performance of this service, including liability for transmission delays or message failures.

Message type

Promotional marketing messages

You acknowledge that by signing up for promotional text messages you will receive notifications regarding potential topics and offers of interest to you from United Airlines and MileagePlus.

Flight status notification service messages

Our flight status notification service will send you flight updates and reminders every time you travel with United. You will receive operational notifications about your upcoming travel, as well as check-in reminders.

Flight reminders

Flight reminders allow you to share the details of your flight with others who are using SMS-enabled mobile phones. This service is available on the United app or on the Flight Reminders page of united.com.

Service limitations

SMS text messaging is not available in all countries. U.S.-supported carriers include AT&T, U.S. Cellular®, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Cricket, Boost, Virgin Mobile USA, T-Mobile®, and MetroPCS. Canada-supported carriers include Aliant Mobility, Bell Mobility, Eastlink, Fido, Mobilicity, MTS, Northern Tel Mobility, Public Mobile, Rogers Wireless, SaskTel Mobility, Tèlèbec Mobilitè, TELUS Mobility, Videotron, Virgin Mobile Canada and WIND Mobile.

Standard messaging and data rates may apply. Messaging frequency varies and can be impacted by customer preferences and related factors, such as the status of flight operations.

Opt in/out of promotional marketing text messages

Opt-in:
Text "JOIN" to 71529 and then reply YES
Or
Visit http://united.com/smsoptin. Fill in the form with your first name, last name, mobile phone, accept the terms, and you’ll immediately receive a text message asking you to confirm that you want to receive promotional text messages.

Opt-out:
Text "STOP" from your mobile device.
Or
Visit https://united.com/smsoptout. Provide the phone number to be opted out, and you’ll immediately receive a message confirming your opt-out.

U.S. and Canadian customers only may call 1-800-UNITED-1 (1-800-864-8331).

Opt in/out of flight status or reminder text messages

Opt-in:
Provide your mobile phone number when prompted, or log in to your profile on united.com, navigate to “Contact Information” under “Profile & Settings,” and add or edit phone numbers.

Opt-out:
You may also opt out by replying "STOP" from your mobile device. For flight status notifications, you may also opt out by calling your local reservations office.
Or
U.S. and Canadian customers only may also text "STOP" to 26266.

If you are not receiving messages from United, please ensure that text messaging is not disabled on your phone. For flight status notifications, you may also contact your local United reservations office for assistance.

Fees

United does not charge a fee for text messaging service. While we do not charge for this service, we are not responsible for any charges from a person's service provider that may result from our providing this service. It is the user's responsibility to check with their individual carrier, as standard messaging and data rates may apply. United assumes no responsibility for charges incurred by signing up for this text messaging service. Any text messaging fees that you incur will be billed on your individual mobile provider bill.
